Getting started

How do I start tracking time?

Select a project from the sidebar, then click the play button to start the timer. On the Mac you can also start and stop the timer from the menu bar icon, or press ⌘T anywhere in the app.

How do I create a project?

Navigate to the Projects section in the sidebar and click the "+" button. Give your project a name, choose a color, and optionally set an hourly rate or budget.

Can I add time entries manually?

Yes! Click the "+" button in the Timer or Times view to add a manual time entry with a specific start and end time. You can also click any gap in the day view to fill it, and drag or resize existing blocks.

How do I import my data from another time tracker?

Go to Settings → Import (or simply drag the export file onto the import window). Tracked ships presets for Tyme, Timing, Toggl Track, Clockify, Harvest, Timemator, Clockodo, mite, and Everhour, plus generic CSV and JSON import. Tracked backs up your database automatically before every import.

Everyday use

What happens if I forget to stop the timer?

Tracked's away detection notices when you step away from your Mac and asks what to do with the idle time — or, if you prefer, stops the timer automatically and backdates it to when you left. Configure this in Settings → Timer → Away Detection.

Can I edit a running timer?

Yes. You can adjust the running timer's start time directly in the timer view, or use "Split Now" to close the current entry and keep the timer going in a fresh one.

How do I export my data?

Go to Settings → Data → Export Data. You can export as CSV or PDF, and filter by date range. PDF timesheets support a custom footer for payment terms or bank details.

Does Tracked handle vacations and sick days?

Yes. Add absences (vacation, sick day, public holiday, or other) in the Times view. Absent days are excluded from your expected-hours math, so your under- and overtime numbers stay honest.

Sync, automation & integrations

How do I enable iCloud sync?

iCloud sync is a Pro feature. After upgrading, enable it in Settings → Sync and make sure you're signed into the same iCloud account on all devices. Sync goes through your personal iCloud account — we never see your data.

How do I connect Tracked to Claude?

Tracked has a built-in MCP server — the app binary itself runs it. In Settings → Integrations you'll find a copy-paste setup command for Claude Code and a config snippet for Claude Desktop. Once connected, you can ask Claude to start timers, log entries, or summarize your week.

Does Tracked work with Shortcuts or AppleScript?

Yes. Tracked ships nine Shortcuts intents (start/stop/toggle, continue last, favorites, manual entries, reports), a full AppleScript dictionary, and a tracked:// URL scheme. You can also run a Shortcut automatically whenever a timer starts or stops.

Does Tracked work offline?

Completely. Tracked needs no internet connection at all — iCloud sync is the only optional online feature, and it catches up automatically when you're back online.

Purchases & account

What's included in Tracked Pro?

Tracked Pro unlocks unlimited projects, iCloud sync across your devices, and PDF timesheet/report export. Everything else — time tracking, reports, tags, and CSV/JSON export — is free.

How does the free trial work?

Every new install includes a 14-day free trial with everything unlocked — no account or credit card needed. When it ends, core tracking stays free; Pro features pause until you upgrade. Your data is never affected.

How do I manage my subscription?

Go to Settings → Account to view your subscription status, upgrade, or manage your subscription through the App Store.

How do I restore my purchase?

Open Tracked's settings and choose "Restore Purchases". This restores any previous purchase or subscription linked to your Apple ID.

Is my data safe if I uninstall the app?

Uninstalling removes the local database, so export your data first (Settings → Data → Export) or make sure iCloud sync is enabled if you plan to reinstall. Tracked also keeps automatic local backups before imports and destructive actions.
